Contentment vs Fulfillment

Thu Aug 13, 2009, 8:40 AM
Contentment and fulfillment—these are two values that are very confusing. Most people interchange there meaning and pursue a different kind purpose for what it means.
Contentment is a very dangerous kind of word because when it is given a bad meaning; it is like saying goodbye to your goals and personal fulfillments. When misunderstood in a negative way, it will stop and end the enthusiasm including the adventures of your life.

Contentment becomes negative when we integrate it with the word “stop, end or the words related to it”. When you start to say that “This is it…” and we start to halt, you’ve just killed your dreams. Fulfillment tends to die because growth in life never stops unless you are already dead. This is true is so many ways; in business, in relationships, in careers and of course in any living thing on the planet. But don’t get me wrong; I don’t mean that you won’t stop unless you become greater than God, what I simply mean is that you should not stop growing and always follow through!

Agreeing to things and events as it is, and worse; accepting less than you deserve without pushing through your ideals will not get you to the point of stability of achievements.

Contentment is short term. The demands will always expand, and enough will not be sufficient. It could please us so easily but it will not last because the goal is very basic. Sooner or later the requirements of life will come and claim for our individual development. The best thing about contentment is that you can be happy so easily; but the problem is it won’t last that long since there is no stability.

Fulfillment is long term. There is only one way to be fulfilled. It is to seek and follow through a goal. You cannot achieve what you want; if you settle down so easily just because of circumstances starts to pop-up. Fulfillments are not achieved by staying still and not definitely by stepping backwards. It is through persistently going against the grains of failures by not accepting things that are less than you deserve. Once you achieve a fulfillment, it is permanent and stable.

Contentment is a continuous growth…

I wrote this as a reaction on Rule #72… Rules of Life by Richard Templar.
